It’s Not Too Early to Consider Your Ski Getaway

Ski resort towns in the western U.S. were flooded with former residents of big cities at the start of the pandemic. The desire for more space and access to nature—combined with the flexibility to work from home—was what brought many people to the mountains, but the lifestyle has kept them there.

“People that came during the pandemic to the mountains, to enjoy a little more solitude and our beautiful mountain lifestyle have decided that they liked it so much that we see them staying and making this their full-time residence,” said Thomas Wright, president and principal broker of Summit Sotheby’s International Realty in Park City, Utah.

Already popular destinations—such as Aspen, Colorado, or Jackson Hole, Wyoming—have attracted even more interest, while lesser known areas—such as Crested Butte, Montana—have found a new audience.

The increased attention has pushed up residential real estate prices, which remain elevated, despite the recent slowdown in the U.S. housing market, according to Christopher Steiner, founder, chief skier and CTO of ZRankings, a company that ranks North American ski resorts.
