The Most Expensive Home in Brooklyn Has Just Sold
Manhattan has almost always been the New York City borough that received the most attention. It was where the first American subway line was placed (lower Manhattan); and the first electrical circuit for homes existed (again, lower Manhattan). What's more, Manhattan has been where the city's biggest skyscrapers (One World Trade Center and the Empire State Building, to name a couple) were erected. And, of course, it's the plot of land that houses New York City's most expensive real estate. Yet, over the past two decades, another New York borough, Brooklyn, has steadily been chipping away at Manhattan's lure.
With such attractions as the decade-old Brooklyn Bridge Park, the six-year-old Barclays Center, and the five-month-old waterfront Domino Park, Brooklyn has steadily risen as an ideal location for New Yorkers to reside. No longer are parts of Brooklyn the faraway borough that people move to simply to avoid Manhattan's sky-high rent (although, that's still a good reason), but rather place that contains hundreds of leafy neighborhoods, safe streets, and charming brown stones housed next to newly erected luxury condominiums. And evidence of this shift can most aptly be appreciate with such news as a Brooklyn penthouse selling for over $20 million, setting a new record for the most expensive home sale in Brooklyn history.
