Beautiful Moorish Style House

When Hollywood director Marc Webb (“500 Days of Summer,” “The Amazing Spider-Man”) put his 1920s Los Feliz home up for grabs over the summer, the listing generated mixed reviews, with appreciation going to the home’s period architecture but not much love for its interiors. While the decor is undeniably on-trend and classy in a very cool, modern manner, it’s also decidedly not original to the Moorish Revival-style property. And most Moorish period touches were long ago erased from the premises.
But buyers loved the place. Big money folks flocked to the house, and it quickly sold in way less than 500 days for nearly the full asking price, a couple hairs under $5 million. The new owner is John Chernin, a TV showrunner known for producing laugh-filled sitcoms like “The Mick” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” with younger brother Dave Chernin, who recently dropped $4.4 million on a slick new Venice house of his own. (It’s also worth noting, of course, that John and Dave are also sons of wildly rich media tycoon Peter Chernin, who sold irreverent blog/media company Barstool Sports last year for $450 million.)
Tucked away in a celebrity-approved hillside pocket of Los Feliz, the multilevel house has more than 4,000 square feet of living space, all of it with high-end finishes and designer touches throughout. From the street, the home presents as a single-story structure, but the place drops down mullet-style to three full floors out back. Inside the front door, a double-height foyer connects to a living room with walnut floors and a fireplace flaunting a unique powder-blue mantle.
